Phuket Hotels MarketView - Q1 2014

Phuket hotel market unaffected by political unrest in Bangkok

QUARTERLY HIGHLIGHTS

• Occupancy of upscale hotels (with average daily room rates between THB 2,000 and THB10,000) increased from the same period last year at around 80%.
• The Average Daily Rate (ADR) of upscale hotels were stable compared to the same period last year.
• Revenue per Available Room (RevPAR) has increased Y-o-Y largely due to the increase in the average occupancy rate.
• Total hotel supply is expected to increase by around 30% by the end of 2016.

OUTLOOK

The outlook for the sector remains positive despite the ongoing political problems in Bangkok. The slowdown in the advance bookings is believed to be short-term. The lower end hotel segment seemed to be the most challenging due to the volume of existing as well as new supply.
