Leisure markets the top performers in 2016

KEY POINTS:

Annual RevPAR growth for the year ending December 2016 was 2.2% reaching $140.
ADR increased 1.3% to reach $185 for the year ending December 2016.
National occupancy jumped to 75.7% recording growth of 0.9%.
Top performers were Cairns and the Gold Coast who registered 12% and 7% increases in RevPAR for the year ending December 2016.
International visitor arrivals reached a record high of 7.4m, an increase of 11% on 2015, and domestic overnight trips were up 5% to 89.4m.
Spending by international visitors in the year to September 2016 was $25.8bn, up 11% on 2015, whilst overnight spend on domestic trips increased 5% to $59.7bn.
Hotel sales volume for the 2016 calendar year was approximately $2bn.
