CBRE Hotels Appoints Robert Chess as Senior Director, Valuations

London, June 2015 – CBRE, the leading global real estate advisor, has strengthened its UK Hotels team with the appointment of one of the industry’s leading expert valuers, Robert Chess.

Robert joins the London team as Senior Director, Valuation, and brings with him over 30 years of hotels and leisure experience in the UK and across Europe. Robert’s focus will be primarily on UK valuations together with enhancing the firm’s capability and track record in independent expert roles.

Having gained experience in the corporate sector working for the Imperial Group and Grand Metropolitan, Robert spent almost 15 years at Chesterton where he rose to the position of Director and Head of the National Licensed Leisure and Hotels team. He has subsequently held senior roles with other private property practices.

Robert is currently a Member of the President’s Panel of the RICS Dispute Resolution Service and has acted as an independent expert on a number of high profile disputes including Hong Kong’s largest ever rental arbitration, the five-star Regent Hotel, and the former Selfridge Hotel in London. His recent valuation led projects include a full service regional portfolio, two of the UK's leading conference hotels and a prominent hotel held on complex lease terms.

His hotel valuation experience is extensive and Robert has expert knowledge of, and involvement in, many of the branded hotels around the UK and further afield. He has a reputation for delivering timely, incisive and well-informed advice.

This comes at a time when hotels was the fastest growing asset class in Europe in terms of transaction volume (2014), a trend which has continued into the first quarter of 2015 (Q1 Y-o-Y % change of +116%).

Jane Lees, Head of EMEA Valuation, Hotels, CBRE said:

“I am delighted to welcome Robert to the Valuations team. His wealth of experience and knowledge of the sector complements our UK and wider EMEA team which has doubled in size in the last two years. We continue to attract first-class talent to the business, so we can better serve our clients.”

Robert Chess, Senior Director, Valuation, Hotels, CBRE said:

“CBRE’s reputation in the hotels profession is unrivalled and I am excited to be adding my experience and knowledge to an already well-qualified team, which is clearly growing along with the ambitions of its impressive client base. Our objective for the team is to raise our game still further and I look forward to being part of that.”
